The plot of Drishyam 2 centres on a troubled household. It is the year 2021. Seven years have elapsed since the first part’s events. Ajay Devgn’s character Vijay Salgaonkar has realised his aim of building a movie theatre. He continues to manage a cable network and lives in the same Pondolem, Goa, home. Anju, his older daughter, is seeking medical attention because she is still traumatised from what happened seven years ago. Nandini, Vijay’s wife (Shriya Saran), is very worried and worries that anything might go wrong at any time. She confides in Jenny, her neighbour, for support (Neha Joshi). Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna), meantime, is chosen to serve as the next IG in Goa. He is close with Meera Deshmukh (Tabu). She had made London her home.
The movie DRISHYAM 2 is a replica of the same named Malayalam film from 2021. Jeethu Joseph’s tale is amazing since it completely upholds the narrative’s integrity and moves it along. The writing by Aamil Keeyan Khan and Abhishek Pathak is engrossing and really amps up the suspense. But it moves too slowly, especially at the beginning and middle. Dialogues of Aamil Keeyan Khan are straightforward but cutting.
On the other hand, the length of the movie hurts it. In the first half, not much happens. Too soon after the interval, one could question whether the movie still has anything valuable to say. Second, it might be difficult to accept some cinematic liberties. Finally, even if happily not many people have watched the original version, it is pretty similar to that one.
DRISHYAM 2 gets off to an interesting start. The difficulties Vijay faces and how the locals think he committed the crime are clearly portrayed. Some of the first half’s sequences, such as Anju’s epilepsy episode, Anju confiding in Jenny, and Tarun’s entrance, stand out. The unexpected intermission point suggests that this movie is likewise a roller coaster ride. After the break, Tarun has a wonderful encounter with Nandini and his daughters. However, the best is saved for the final thirty minutes. There will be cheers and whistles in the theatres as a result of the utterly unexpected change of events.
The directing of Abhishek Pathak is pretty brilliant, and he has developed much since his previous movie, UJDA CHAMAN (2019). He has provided the necessary amounts of thrill, suspense, and exhilaration. As a result, spectators will be seated still from beginning to end. The finale is where he exhibits his genius.
As predicted, Ajay Devgn gives a fantastic performance. He skillfully slips back into the role of Vijay and leaves no room for criticism. The franchise is better off with the inclusion of Akshaye Khanna. Thanks to his acting and characterisation, he steals the show in every scene. Tabu is understated and incredibly powerful. Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Shriya Saran are trustworthy. Both Siddharth Bodke (David) and Kamlesh Sawant (Gaitonde) create a lasting impression. In a cameo, Saurabh Shukla (Murad Ali) is really terrific. There are several respectable actors, including Rajat Kapoor, Neha Joshi, Nishant Kulkarni (Shiv; Jenny’s husband), Yogesh Soman (Inspector Vinayak), Sharad Bhutadia (Martin), Ashmita Jaggi (Mary), and others.
The soundtrack by Devi Sri Prasad complements the tone of the movie. The title tune and “Sahi Galat” are both excellent. It’s hard to remember “Saath Hum Rahein.” The dynamic and dramatic background music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
The cinematography of Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary is imaginative and well-done. The production design by Tarpan Shrivastava is realistic. The outfits worn by Tanya Oak, Sanam Ratansi, and Navin Shetty are very unrealistic. The behaviour of Amin Khatib is not alarming. The editing by Sandeep Francis might have been more precise. The 142-minute movie ought to have been cut by 15 to 20 minutes.
DRISHYAM 2 delivers a paisa-vasool experience overall and is a deserving sequel owing to the acting, storyline, and applause-worthy conclusion. Due to the high level of expectation, it might debut in the double digits at the box office.
